IIFL report launch event celebrating the diversity of British Muslims

IIFL launched its latest report on the diversity of British Muslims at a reception held in the Palace of Westminster.

The Institute for the Impact of Faith in Life (IIFL) launched its latest report on the diversity of British Muslims at a reception held in the Palace of Westminster on the evening of Wednesday 2nd April.

The reception marked the publication of IIFL’s latest report, ‘Belonging, Belief & Britishness.’ The report is based on a poll of 815 adult British Muslims commissioned by IIFL and conducted by Whitestone Insight (a member of the British Polling Council), as well as a series of interviews with British Muslims.

The reception was attended by parliamentarians, academics, and friends of IIFL. Remarks were delivered by Rania Mohiuddin-Agir, the report’s author, and Baroness Gohir OBE, the CEO of Muslim Women’s Network UK.

Speaking at the event, Rania Mohiuddin-Agir said her research:

“Challenged the narrative that Muslims are a singular group whose experience of life in Britain can be defined in terms of victimhood, struggles and anti-Muslim sentiments. I hope what you read in this report will challenge assumptions and ultimately spark change.”

The Baroness Gohir OBE said:

“Sometimes Muslim organisations will represent Muslims through a victimhood lens, that we are only bothered by Islamophobia and foreign policy. But this report shows Muslims actually want to be seen through a different lens, about how we are contributing to society – that positivity really resonated with me.”
